Neste and Mura Technology have signed a noteworthy offtake agreement, setting the stage for the transformation of plastic waste into a valuable upcycled feedstock for new plastic production. This collaboration is not just a leap forward in recycling technology but also a large step towards a circular plastic economy. Mura Technology’s innovative HydroPRS (Hydrothermal Plastic Recycling Solution) process is at the heart of this venture. Utilizing supercritical water to break down a wide array of plastic wastes, including those previously deemed unrecyclable, the HydroPRS technology is capable of processing mixed and contaminated plastics, such as food packaging materials, into high-quality hydrocarbons.
With Neste’s commitment to convert the ISCC PLUS accredited products from Mura's England facility into feedstock, the alliance is a testament to both companies’ dedication to environmental stewardship and innovation. The European Commission’s Joint Research Centre has lauded Mura’s HydroPRS as a best-in-class technology, with a carbon footprint approximately 50% lower than competing pyrolysis technologies.
